Diana Hoare has lived and produced art in St Davids for 26 years
Whether Calligraphy, Lettering, Illumination, Stone carving, Lino print or Tapestry, with any artistic modality Diana is inspired by her surroundings:
the interplay between light and landscpe, water and rock; and the line where the sea meets the sky
Diana uses both calligraphic pen lettering, and hand-drawn lettering
Hand drawn lettering differs from calligraphy because of the tool in the hand
The pen, used properly, defines the letter shape
The lettering artist needs to understand how pen lettering works, producing thin and thick lines in order to draw letters that look right
Diana started Tapestry by the fire one winter, producing a range of Wall Hangings and Cushion Covers
Diana's sewing technique is not needle point, but rather a freer form of stitching. The variation in stitches helps to contribute to the texture of the image
The design process for Lino cutting is similar to that used for relief carving in stone, but in a material which is softer and easier to handle and allows the production of coloured print
