The skills required for designing images for printing is not dissimilar to the skills required for stone carving.
Both require clear composition with a minimum of lines and both entail removal of medium, stone or Lino, to produce the image.
The image is drawn on to the lino and then carved with specialist lino cutting tools.
It is much easier to achieve than carving on stone and the added attraction is that it can be printed in colour
